WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING...From an educator in Jamaica: From a parent/educator, November 2007: "To see their eyes light up when they "get" the lines is
awesome." Thank you Richard!
I want to let you know what a blessing your adaptations have been to our homeschool group. I know that one of my moms, Shirley Byrd, let you know about our productions here in Acworth, Georgia. Thanks to you, many of my kids' first theatrical production was a Shakespeare play. I am currently the managing director of Theatre On Main in Acworth and am working to include more children's and adult Shakespeare into our seasons. I just finished directing The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) and thanks to our studies, many of my students knew a great deal about the plays.
... Your work is helping spread the joys of Shakespeare all over around here!
Thank you again,
Carolyn Choe
PS. You can view pictures of our production of The Taming of The Shrew. BTW...the adults are jealous of our shows! LOL
As for the Shrew, we had a great time with it
and actually the kids, in three groups have chosen three scenes and
adapted them for a smaller number of people, for example combining
Tranio's lines with Licentio's etc. This made the kids really think
about the meaning and the blocking behind their scene. They directed
the scenes as well. ... Your script was wonderful though
and I couldn't have studied the Shrew without it. ... |
Classes and Workshops "[AS YOU LIKE IT] I do like it very much, and believe it
is exactly what is needed to introduce Shakespeare to children. You found the
language that can make the play funny to youngsters, but it also captures the
lilt and flow of the words which will stay with them as they grow up." I am not the only former English teacher who struggled to get students to understand and appreciate the works of Shakespeare. If the adaptations that Richard Carter has written had been available, my students would have had both a better understanding of the plays and a much better time reading and acting these great works. |
